Do it in a dress day

Parkes High School students and staff wore a dress last week in support of the “Do It In A Dress Day”.

The “Do It In A Dress Day” recognises and supports the fundamental rights of girls to have access to educational opportunities in Sierra Leone.

According to the “Do It In A Dress” website over 130 million girls around the world are denied an education and without an education girls can remain in a cycle of poverty and are more likely to become a child bride then to finish high school.

Guest speaker on the day was past student Kerry Mann, who spoke about taking the opportunities we are given and about her journey since leaving Parkes High School.

Parkes High student Bronte O’Shannessy, who was the driving force behind this important cause was impressed by the number of students and staff who supported the day which raised enough money to pay for the education of one girl.
